What is it?
Among the procedures around the face, rhinoplasty (a.k.a. "nose job") is the ultimate in sculpting. The modern approach in rhinoplasty is to create a nose that is unique to each individual rather than creating the same nose for every face regardless of size or shape. That enters into the real art form of shaping the nose to the size and shape of the face. Much time is spent in advanced computer imaging and consulting with Dr. Krausen to make sure that the right shape and size are obtained to make the most of your face. You can bring in photos of faces from magazine advertising to help in planning the final shape of your nose.
Who might be interested in it?
Rhinoplasty allows your nose to be in complete harmony with your face rather than being an unusually outstanding or overly noticed feature of your face. People also seek rhinoplasty to correct a nose that has unwanted twists and turns that detract from other handsome features. Sometimes a gentle lifting-up the tip of the nose, which is done in conjunction with a facelift, can create balance and the appearance of a more youthful-looking face.
Expected results
What looks attractive or pleasing on your face takes careful planning and a lot of input from you. Creating the same nose for every patient is a thing of the past. With the help of the computer imaging, a tremendous amount of input from the patient along with some artistic suggestions from a physician can create a nose that maintains its individuality and balances well with a patient's facial structure. An artistically appropriate nose creates a positive change in appearance without creating something that looks out of place and artificial.
Downtime
Rhinoplasty usually takes a couple of hours using local anesthesia with intravenous sedation (twilight sedation) or with a general anesthetic. The nasal packing that so often was a part of the discomfort in the past is either not used or kept in overnight and removed the morning after. Usually, packing is not used at all.
Most patients can drive the day after rhinoplasty. Bruising has been greatly reduced with modern techniques, including intense pulse light treatment by Dr. Krausen. That means that most patients can be back to work in 5-7 days.
Follow-up
4-5 days post-surgery, patients are asked to review their results and progress with Dr. Krausen. Follow-up is included for two years.
Tune-ups
Results from rhinoplasty are permanent.
